The Tangled List - Hibernation

hello hibernation

this is the first year that i'm not heading into my deep winter blues hibernation. before moving to chicago... i have to admit...i was somewhat of a sad sap during the winter months. i'm talking full on sadness. i used to think it was just the dreary weather and the fact that it got dark before i left work.

well not anymore.

i am quickly discovering...when you are happy in your life...you don't get the winter blues.
(or maybe that's just me. don't quote me or anything...i'm no doctor.)

so long winter blues.

don't get me wrong. i'm still heading into that hibernation mode...it just won't be a sad one.
nope. this one is going to be a good. the kind where you just get all sorts of projects done. movies watched. blankets knit. online favs shopped. city christmas picture explorations
all the good stuff.

lately part of my hibernation has been me becoming really obsessed with the whole concept of "my favorite things". i think it has something to do with me really missing the Oprah Winfrey Show this time of the year.

this obsession has directly resulted in me spending hours online "window" shopping.
i can't stop.
i'm not even buying anything. i just sit in front of the computer and literally "browse."
oh the madness!!!

since this blog is clearly about me...haha
i have decided to share some of the things i'm over the moon about and actually might not just stare at.

enjoy.

For The Love of Pie

ah…the joy of holiday cooking.
can you smell that?

oh you can't. well…
let me describe it for you.
that my friends is the smell of homemade apple pie. you know…the kind of apple pie that is so good you would slap yo mama for a piece.
(no disrespect mama. but you know how i feel about pie)

and now for a moment of thanks...

as we all know…i'm over the moon about living in chicago but the two things i miss most are my friends and family being a hop and a skip away. i'm not sure what it is about moving away but it sure makes you appreciate and love home even more. i never really understood the quote "absence makes the heart grow fonder!" but i get it now. i'm pretty sure i have the most amazing family and friends a girl could ask for.

there isn't a day that i'm not thankful for the life i live and the people that are in it. with that being said…
i feel the need to just give a little shout out to the people and things i'm grateful for. (tangle style)

- unconditional love from the most amazing woman i know. my mom.
- friends that love me in spite of all the insane things i say and do.
- friends that make pie just because you are in town
- cousins that love you so much they actually will sit through twilight a second time
- the julia Robert's documentary that changed my life by introducing me to some of the most amazing people i have ever met. (to my knit stop crew. i love you guys from the bottom of my heart)
- not having to go shopping on black friday because my mom is a pro and knows what i love
- my mom accepting my cheesy obsession with abcfamily holiday movies
- that moment right after everyone is done eating on thanksgiving and you look around at your family; all stuffed and happy... and realize…they may be loud, crazy and just plain hilarious…but they are family and you love them.

i hope that everyone had an amazing thanksgiving week!!!
and remember. there is always room for pie!

View From the Top

have you ever said you weren't afraid of something?
well i'm 28 years old and i just found out that i'm afraid of heights! yep that's right. i've gone all these years sauntering around saying
" heights? pish posh! i'm not afraid of no heights!"

WELL I OFFICIALLY TAKE THAT STATEMENT BACK.
I'M WITHOUT A DOUBT.
TERRIFIED OF HEIGHTS.

honestly. this shocked me. i mean come on. i'm 5'3. height is my middle name right?
i'm sure you are wondering what in the world i'm talking about at this point. so i won't keep you hanging on to the edge of your seat.

My friend Lu and her hubby Zach made the trek up to chicago a few weekends ago to see my lovely face of course. while taking a break from admiring my gorgeous mug...we all decided to reach back to the 8th grade and take a little sightseeing trip to the Sears Tower.
(i'm sorry. i can't call it the Willis. i just can't. i won't.)

top 6 things this journey taught me:
1. i'm afraid of heights. (don't let the picture above fool you. this is the exact moment i realized i had the fear. also the moment i realized i should look into a career as a ventriloquist… u can't even tell i was yelling at Lu, "take the picture already!!!"
2. my fear of heights brings out my "classy yelling" side
3. children under the age of 6 should not be forced to go here. it's just cruel.
4. don't take yourself too seriously…you are just a small blip on the large scale of things.
5. super cute guys are tourist too!!!
6. eat before doing anything that requires waiting in line for long periods of time. (i'm like those under 6 year olds…hello grouchy pants)

spying on the peeps in the skybox next to us.

I hope all of you make it a priority to visit the Sears Tower. I highly recommend it.
fear of heights and all.

and there you have it.
another glimpse in to the world that is T!
xoxo

one last thing…
while Lu was in town…she did me the honor of taking a few pix of me for the blog.
they aren't 100 % done but here's a sneak peak.
p.s. to all you midwest peeps…book at session asap.
she's amazing.
see for yourself.

Girls Who Eat 1.5

Welcome to the world of communal dining.

So i'm officially a blogging slacker.
these past couple of months have been complete chaos. so much so...that i literally forgot to tell you guys about another amazing foodie experience i had awhile back at publican.

i was having drinks with my friend B and i told her about my quest to conquer all things chicago food.
i had barely finished my sentence when she perked up and said " Omg. you have to come to brunch with me at publican." (i'm learning very fast that chicago takes brunch really serious)
Well i figured that any place that can get B that excited was worth checking out.
and o boy was she right.

this place is very very cool.
you walk in and it's nothing like you think it's going to be.
clean lines. dark woods. high ceilings. and a large walnut communal table. (that i later found out was designed to mirror 16th century european banquets)  let me just say...if you don't like being close to strangers...this might not be the place for you.
but you know me...i'll do anything for a taste sensation. haha.

and now to the food.

i highly suggest ordering some libations here. (come on...it's brunch.)
bloody mary's and mimosas. yes please.

now don't be overwhelmed by the detailed menu. the people here are super nice and love explaining what items on the menu are. when in doubt...ask the waiter what is a top item on the menu. never fails for me.

recommendations:

appetizers:
1. hash browns
2.Burton’s maple syrup-braised publican bacon (legit bacon)

entrees:
1. Vietnamese Pork Sausage
2. Pork Belly Bibimbap (only order if you aren't on a date. tons o garlic)
(now keep in mind...they like to change it up...so these items may not be on the menu anymore. but don't worry...you will love everything!!!)

and there you have it. another round of girls who eat.

go now!!!!
